Lassoed with strops and connected to the 'tirfor' it is winched slowly back from the edge.

The damage, although extensive, does not affect the main structure, only the wing wall.

John with our new wheeled strimmer in the Basin bed.
A really good piece of kit that can tackle really tough jobs.

The North Wilts Canal in this area is built on an embankment as it crosses the flood plain, hence the 'Flood Relief Aqueduct'.

And it really does flood!!

Over the 2013 Christmas week, WRG were holding work camps at Inglesham and Weymoor Bridge.
Due to the flooding the Inglesham site was unavailable.
But fortunately, for us, our canal bed being on an embankment provided them with an alternative work site.
This is the far end of our canal bed, near the River Churn, before they started.

They got 'stuck in' with great enthusiasm.

By the end of the week it was 'all clear'.
This is the far end of our canal bed, near the River Churn, at the finish.

We were very grateful to
WRG for all their work.

At times it feels like we are working on an island.

The four arches under the aqueduct are still in a good condition allowing the vast quantities of water to pass under it.

The water gone, and the Basin looking pristine again.

But we have to keep the reeds etc. in the top half under control.

The soil in the basin is so rich that plants just shoot up as soon as you turn your back.

The water has gone, so we can now start to rebuild the aqueduct wall.

The top of the aqueduct and the entrance to the lock are clear, but our priority must be the aqueduct walls before the lock.

Two more stumps on the west side of the aqueduct.

The east side of the aqueduct due to receive attention in 2015. Hopefully the weather will be dry enough in the summer for us to erect some scaffolding.

By regular use of our strimmers and lawnmower, we are keeping the canal bed and towpath in good order.

Luscious growth of unwanted reeds etc., if left to grow the basin would be completely overgrown within a very short time.
